Behind the Musings – Part 4

Part Four

So because of my acting background, I love character analysis’ and backgrounds. I usually keep these close to me because if background stories are interesting enough, I’ll make them into another book, but meh! I can share!

I am starting off with my personal two favorite characters….our heroine Are’An and the young commander, Depash. The pics are from my moodboard on Pinterest and of course, my cover model!

Name: Are’An (Fearless Warrior)
Age: 20 (at book’s start)
Height: 5’2″
Weight: 106
Eyes: hazel
Hair: blonde/brown

Are’An was just two when her father died in a barn fire. Her mother had to get a job at an inn within the city of Nyora and  she soon caught the eye of an Inzi faeni captain named Nikan. When Are’An was five years old when her mother married Nikan and they were both inducted into the Inzi tribe.

Are’An’s new apa began to train his child as is custom, (although her mother objected) and Are’An soon began showing exceptional talent in hand-to-hand combat. At twelve, she bested her peers in all demonstrations, and at fourteen, she bested her teachers.

When Are’An was sixteen, her apa Nikan was called off to go on campaign with the king. That next year, with hostility between the Inzi and Nyora growing, she was given command of her first troop.

Name: Depash (Without Weakness)
Age: 18 (at book’s start)
Height: 6’2″
Weight: 186
Eyes: black
Hair: red

As a child, Depash lived a reclusive life with his mother and two sisters outside one of the southern villages. His father abandoned the family shortly after the youngest sister was born, making Depash the man of the house at the age of seven. At the age of eleven, he lost his family when the home collapsed in a storm, and was soon brought in by the Inzi.

The boy excelled in anything he did: archery, swordsmanship, combat, and horsemanship. In domestic life, he was talented at blacksmithing, building, chopping wood and hunting. Depash was often praised for his tactical brilliance and unusual strength. He became leader of his first troop at sixteen, and at the age of seventeen, he replaced the commander of all the southern and eastern troops.

Fun Facts

Fight scenes were probably the hardest to write. Besides meeting with my friend, I watched a lot of police training videos, self defense videos, martial arts videos, and A BUNCH of LARP’ers to get inspiration.
